My father and I stood before the Coronation Chair in Westminster Abbey. We listened the tour guide recount the succession of monarchs that had sat upon that chair as each was crowned king or queen of England. I was struck by this bit of British history. I know enough of the stories to recognize that some were kind-hearted while others were tyrants. This, of course, was the promise of God to his people when they rejected his theocracy in favor of human rule. I felt that human ache of longing for the return of the good king and his kingdom. I remembered that in heaven there has ever only been and will ever only be one king whose reign has always been true and just. From his throne flows grace, love, peace and healing for this world.
There’s a stream that runs
From a far off place
Passing crowns and elders down
Upon their face
And it flows with life
For all of Adam’s sons
And with grace enough for everything
They’ve ever done
It’s the stream of love
Of the only king
Who has sat on heaven’s throne
For all eternity
And it flows from him
And it flows to all
Who would drink
And never thirst again
There’s perfect place
In that distant land
Far beyond the farest hopes
Of any man
It’s a holy place
A city fine and fair
And the heart’s desire of everyone
Who’s journeyed there
It’s as high and long
And as vast and wide
As the grace and goodness of the king
Who reigns inside
He’s the promised groom
Of the waiting bride
Who would drink
And never thirst again
There’s a spotless lamb
In that spotless place
Worshipped by the very ones
He died to save
Some from every tribe
And some from every tongue
Each one purchased with the life
Of heaven’s only son
He is heaven’s light
And the only king
Who will sit on heaven’s throne
For all eternity
For he died and rose
So his life would flow
To all who’d drink
And never thirst again
So come and drink
And never thirst again
